"The truly creative mind in any field is no more than this: A human creature born abnormally, inhumanely sensitive. To them... a touch is a blow, a sound is a noise, a misfortune is a tragedy, a joy is an ecstasy, a friend is a lover, a lover is a god, and failure is death. Add to this cruelly delicate organism the overpowering necessity to create, create, create -- so that without the creating of music or poetry or books or buildings or something of meaning, their very breath is cut off... They must create, must pour out creation. By some strange, unknown, inward urgency they are not really alive unless they are creating."

Scrappy Tote Bag

I had some leftover fusible fleece so I decided to experiment. I wanted to see if I could iron on strips to it w/out having to sew. I grabbed a bunch of strings leftover from previous projects and ironed them.
I laid them on top of on the fusible fleece making sure they overlapped.
They must overlap in order to cover ever inch of the fusible fleece.
I kept going until the fusible fleece was covered in strips.
I ironed them in place and sure enough they stayed and I didn't have sew any of them.
Once all my pieces were ironed on I flipped it over and straightened out the edges.
I folded it in 1/2 and sewed along the edges to make the outer layer of my bag.
I grabbed another piece of leftover fusible fleece and some leftover fabric to make the inside of my bag. I cut it the same size as the first piece, ironed on some fabric, and added a pocket. I also folded it in 1/2 and sewed along the edges to make it match.
I made handles with leftover materials and completed my bag.
(Can you believe I didn't have to sew a single strip?!)
Here is another version of the bag using the same steps.

I have clothing from my in-laws who have both passed away, I was going to make quilts from the fabrics for family members from them for tangible memory sake. I think this tote idea is much more practical and I can hardly wait to cut old Hawaiian shirts, blouses and dresses into strips and surprise their children and grandchildren with something that may be a daily comfort and reminder of times spent! Thanks for a great idea!
